Carne

Miss Emeline Goodall

I absolutely love being outside in nature. I have a big, friendly German Wire Haired Pointer called Rita who likes to visit school sometimes and listen to children read. She also loves to run around the playground with everyone and if she gets the chance, she particularly likes to try and knock over a bin or two to see if she can find any goodies! I collect children's picture books and have so many favourites, its hard to pick one. At the moment I really like "Its Your World Now" By Barry Falls. I enjoy walking all over Cornwall in my spare time and would like to learn to Paddleboard really well this year.

Carne Class - Nursery, Reception and Year 1

In Carne Class we use the EYFS curriculum and the National Curriculum. Children learn through guided sessions, play and practical based activities. Not only do activities focus on academic abilities, but also on social and emotional aspects, supporting the child as a whole.
Our topic this term is "Eat, Sleep, Grow, Repeat" and as the title suggests we will be looking at life cycles of different animals including humans. We will be meeting baby Lowen again to see how he has changed and we hope to incubate some hen eggs and see the miracle of life emerge in our own classroom. We will also be wild food foraging and continuing to care for and nurture the plants and trees in our school garden and wild tribe field. We will be looking at healthy eating and the effects of exercise on our bodies. We will use scientific skills of grouping and observing and we will be getting to know the 100 square inside and out! In writing we we will continue to practice basic skills and we will learn how to turn present tense verbs into the past tense. One of the main focusses this term is transition so we will be focussing lots on the idea of growing and changing and how it makes us feel, our fears and what we are looking forward to.
Our topic this term is "Lets take a walk on the wild side". We will be learning and re writing the story "Where The Wild Things Are" . We will also be comparing wild habitats in this country and others , for example, the differences between the Amazon Rainforest and our woodlands and forests in England. We will be exploring music and movement through dance with Miss Katie. In maths we will be exploring multiplication and division. We will be learning how to have a happy mind as part of our focus on Mental Health Awareness Week and looking at living things in Science.
Wow ! What a week . That was some seriously sciencey fun! We have learnt about the life cycle of a human and the stages in that cycle from baby through to elderly (or olderly as one of the children called it). We met a baby human from the mammal family and his mummy and learned what it a baby needs and how to care for one. We practised our new skill on the dolls in class and we are looking forward to meeting Baby Lowen and his mum Amy again to see what new things Lowen has learnt to do and how much he has grown. We measured our own old baby clothes to see how much we have grown so far and thought about the changes that are happening to us at the moment... like losing teeth and our feet getting bigger so we need new shoes. We have learnt about the 5 different groups of animals; Mammals, Reptiles, Birds, Fish and Amphibians and how to tell one from the other. We have built habitats for different types of animals and tried out a carnivorous, herbivorous and omnivorous diets to find out "Who's diet is most delicious?" We have learned the proper names for the parts of the human body and had a laugh mixing up our features to make new class members. It has been fun fun fun. We hope you enjoy looking at all of our learning from the last week.
