Carne Class - Nursery 1 and 2, Reception and Year 1
In Carne Class we use the EYFS curriculum and the National Curriculum. Children learn through guided sessions, play and practical based activities. Not only do activities focus on academic abilities but also on social and emotional aspects, supporting the child as a whole.
Happy Spring term everyone!
This term we will be doing activities linked to our topic "Gardeners World". This also fits in well with our RE studies "Our wonderful world" and as you can imagine gives us lots of opportunity to look at growing, transformation, nurturing and caring for living things. We have met our baby caterpillars today (Monday the 4th March) and we are very excited to watch them develop and transform into butterflies. We will then set them free in the church gardens where there are lots of plants to support them.
The children have been busy creating their very own garden centre in the outdoor classroom on the decking. They have designed and built sheds and incorporated a plant nursery. Next will be the cafe! The children have been using money to buy different things from the garden centre and have been potting plants with Granny B for the nursery.
We have just 'chitted' the first of our seed potatoes and are waiting for them to be ready to plant. If anyone has a large potato sack or a large tub that we could plant them in , we would be very grateful as we are looking for a solution at the moment.
We would also very much like an old til to use in the garden centre as the toy one we had is a bit broken.
This term we have a number of celebrations including World Book Day. Please try to choose a costume based on a character from a book rather than a film and if possible bring the book in on Thursday 7th March. I will be Miss Honey from Matilda on this day and cant wait to see you as your favourite book character.
We will be learning about St. Davids Day, St. Pirans Day and Shrove Tuesday as well.
I want to take this opportunity to say how well all of the children are doing in their learning. All of the children are demonstrating very positive attitudes towards their learning and everyday is an absolute pleasure with them. Keep up the great work with supporting reading and spelling at home, it really makes a huge difference to your child's confidence in school, so a big thank you for your support.
Learning tricky or 'Red words' as we call them is an ongoing challenge so I have attached a PowerPoint with some of the words your child needs to know by sight (see the link below). Feel free to have a go and if you need the next phase please let me know.
OUR TOPIC - Autumn
All about Me- How do our bodies work?
Welcome back everyone! I hope you all and a fabulous summer and are ready to get stuck in to school life again. I am really looking forward to getting to know the children in Carne and seeing how much many of them have grown since I was here last.
We will be learning all about each other and our amazing bodies this term. We will discover what makes us special and unique and what we have in common with one another. We will become a wonderful little team of learners who begin to acquire the skills it takes to support one another and challenge ourselves in our learning. We will be building resilience , becoming more independent, making new friends and discovering our potential as amazing human beings.
The terms plan is attached. Please get in touch if you feel you can support our learning in any way or if you have any questions.
PE - Tuesday afternoons
Please ensure your child has a complete PE kit in school every Tuesday.
READING BOOKS- Reading progress is being monitored closely and therefore we will be changing reading books once per week, additional books and reading resources will be provided if required. Please ensure your child brings their book and reading record to school everyday so they can make the most of every opportunity to read. Please also ensure you record any reading you do at home with your child so that it can be counted towards their Reading Karate achievement.
Books will now be changed every Tuesday afternoon.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
OUR HALF TERM TOPIC - SPRING 1
This half term in Carne we will be looking at Dinosaurs. We will be reading Harry and his bucketful of dinosaurs to support our talk 4 writing as well as using the Read Write Inc programme for phonics, reading and sentence work. We shall be covering and answering the following questions within our lessons. In Science we will compare our bodies with other animals, in particular, our skeletons and body parts.
What did a dinosaur skeleton look like?
How did they walk? How did they swim?
Which dinosaurs lived in water and which lived on land?
How did they grow?
What was the world like when they roamed the Earth?
What did they eat?
What was the biggest/tallest/fiercest/longest dinosaur?
How did pterodactyls fly?
Carne Summer Term 1
Welcome back to the summer term! This term our topic is Transport, we will be covering it in all aspects of our learning. In English we will be looking at fiction and non-fiction books, with a focus on different types of sentences (questions, commands and statements). We will be practising our phonics daily and looking at fun ways to use our phonics skills. In maths we will be going over our learning from the past two terms and hopefully the weather will allow us to do some learning outside in our lovely outdoor area!
During RE we will be focusing on Buddhism, we will be looking at stories from the life of Buddha and what they can tell us. We will also have our Carne class prayers, which are available for the children each day.
In science we will be exploring different materials, what everyday objects are made out of and recyclable materials.
Please could your child have their PE kit in every day and as the weather is now getting better, could we have sun cream (name labelled) in school. Please come and see me if you have any questions. Thank you, Miss Higginson.
